You play Louis de Laval, put ashore alone on the French coast to answer your exiled family's only ally: an uncle promising restored standing under Napoleon, and an unsigned line warning you not to come. A storm drives you into an isolated cottage hiding a plot on the Emperor's life, and you are seized as a spy before the plot's informer has his own cover collapse beside you. The masked guide who leads you on turns out to be your uncle, walking you underground toward Grosbois and a waiting cousin.
