A Create page that opens, and credits that are true

The Create page now opens its form for a signed-in reader — a wrong field name had hidden it from everyone — asks for the name your stories are credited to, reopens your saved drafts, and the app's footer links to it.

Version 2026.10.10.1 Latest release

Truthful availability, and your own words at a choice

A serial's chapter count says how far it goes rather than reading as its whole length, the One sitting tag is reserved for stories that genuinely end where they stop, and in the stories that offer it you can type your own reply at a choice instead of picking one.

  • See "N chapters so far" on a serial's story page and landing page, where a plain count read as a finished length.
  • Search snippets for serials describe the same boundary rather than a complete short story.
  • The One sitting tag no longer lands on one-chapter serials, which are openings that end asking for the next chapter; it marks only stories that are genuinely complete in one sitting.
  • In the stories that offer it, type your own words at a choice: the story picks up the closest written branch, and its characters may answer you in one line of their own. What you type goes to our AI provider with the options on screen and a few lines of the chapter — nothing else about you — and never enters our measurement. The privacy page says all of this in plain words.
  • Turn your own text into a story on the new Create page: paste a source you have the right to use, let our AI draft the branching script, edit every line you want to, and send it for review. A person reads every story before it ships, and it carries your name when it does.
  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has a new opening chapter: strange weather arrives over the Kansas farm from the first lines, and Toto talks.
  • The Fir Tree joins the catalogue for winter — a Hans Christian Andersen tale, and the first story here whose first draft came from our AI drafting tool before editors shaped it.
Version 2026.10.07.3

Clearer personas, progress and privacy explanations

Choose a default persona as you create it, see consistent completed-chapter counts, and read clearer backup, identity and authorship explanations on desktop and mobile.

  • Optionally make a new persona the default for new self-insert stories. Existing playthroughs retain their starting identities.
  • See the same chapters-completed wording in the home resume strip, saved-story cards, story details and My NetFable.
  • Read the full My NetFable label on narrow screens and follow a Choose backup options button that describes its action.
  • Understand private reference notes, the You and Yourself labels after identity cleanup, and what supplied authorship metadata does and does not establish.
  • Read the authorship explanation on a solid page background in both themes, with stronger search-placeholder and error-text contrast.
  • Keep backup file selection intact when automatic browser-storage checks finish, including WebKit browsers.
Version 2026.10.07.2

Resume faster and find your backup tools

Resume a saved playthrough above the featured story, find backup tools directly, and check file sizes before downloading. Consistent options and clearer copy make library controls easier to use.

  • Resume your latest unfinished playthrough above the homepage’s featured story, with its saved role and completed-chapter count.
  • Open backup or account-data tools directly from the save-status control. Account jump links lead to backup, download, credit-name and deletion controls.
  • See one optional guest backup reminder after creating a persona or completing a chapter. Reading and persona creation remain usable without an account.
  • Use consistent Include private notes and Include avatars options, check the file size, and retry without avatars when a backup is too large. Existing version-1 files remain supported.
  • Check storage protection automatically without requesting permission. A single explicit action lets you ask the browser to protect local storage.
  • Copy deletion-request references, understand unavailable import choices, and see clearer persona-deletion wording with identity cleanup off by default.
  • Account size checks and exports allow reading saves and persona edits to continue; concurrent changes invalidate the estimate or export safely.
Version 2026.10.07.1

More control over personal identities and deletion requests

Choose whether a deleted persona keeps its identity in saved playthroughs, and submit scoped deletion requests from your account. Clearer credit and authorship disclosures explain what readers can see and what the source metadata establishes.

  • When deleting a persona, optionally clear its saved name and avatar from matching playthroughs in the current library. Choices, progress and fixed protagonists are preserved.
  • Keep privacy cleanup effective across stale saves, failed refreshes and reconnecting devices. Separate guest copies and downloaded files are not erased.
  • Submit a deletion request while signed in, choose its scope, check status, and cancel while pending. Requests require operator review; submission does not immediately erase account data.
  • Read clearer explanations of who sees credit names and what each writing-authorship label means. The 454 unspecified stories remain labelled honestly while source evidence is tracked.
  • Use validated avatar encoding fallbacks when a browser returns PNG or JPEG instead of WebP.
  • NetFable operators can review deletion requests in a private queue and record progress after performing and verifying the requested work.
Version 2026.10.06.2

Know your library, keep your playthroughs

Download your account library, recognize each saved playthrough, and see clearly whether you are using guest or account data. Credit-name wording and authorship labels make the product easier to understand.

  • See whether the guest library or account library is active, with clear import and sign-out explanations. Guest originals remain separate and do not sync.
  • Find multiple playthroughs grouped by story, with their starting names, dates and retained identity even after a persona changes.
  • Download a portable account-library file with saved playthroughs, personas and avatars. Exclude reference notes or avatars from either guest or account exports. Files are unencrypted and restore into a guest library.
  • Find credit-name settings and deletion-request guidance together in Account. Account deletion remains a contact request; no automatic deletion or response deadline is promised.
  • See authorship information on catalogue cards and a prewritten-story explanation on detail pages. New stories require a declared writing origin or a reviewed exception.
  • Account exports check ownership throughout preparation and abort on missing data or failed synchronization instead of downloading a partial library.
Version 2026.10.06.1

An easier start, and a backup for your browser library

Back up your guest library, choose exactly what to import into your account, and understand how personas and private notes work. Clearer starting points and persistent import reminders make your saved stories easier to find.

  • Browse stories or start today’s featured story directly from an empty library, and create a first persona directly from My personas.
  • See persona-compatible and original-character labels on catalogue cards, plus a header signal when saved stories are ready to continue.
  • Bookmark each My NetFable section. See what appears in stories, what remains a reference note, and where guest and account data is stored.
  • Download and restore a guest-library backup with personas, saved avatars, choices, progress, and settings. Exclude private notes if you prefer; restoration validates the file and preserves existing journeys.
  • Check browser storage and explicitly request protection from automatic cleanup, with clear limits and backup guidance.
  • Use clearer selected settings, aligned size labels, stronger helper-text contrast, and larger controls.
  • Choose saved readings, personas, private notes, and reading settings separately when importing into an account. Notes are unchecked by default; existing account notes are kept.
  • Find guest data after sign-in with a persistent Review import reminder. Import later without replacing account journeys; interrupted avatar transfers can be retried safely.
Version 2026.10.05.2

Your reading, your roles, on every device

My NetFable brings your reading, personas, settings, and account together. Each playthrough now keeps its own identity and choices, with optional private syncing across devices.

  • Open My NetFable from the header for Continue reading, My personas, Reading settings, and Account. Homepage continuation cards identify the role and chapter.
  • Read and create personas without signing in. Guest saves stay in this browser, with a dismissible invitation to save across devices after a completed chapter.
  • Keep separate playthroughs of the same story. Each keeps its role, original avatar, decisions, and story state. New saves resume at the last displayed line, including nested choices.
  • Sign in to sync reading progress and preferences. Explicitly import browser personas and saved readings; changed guest journeys and conflicting device saves are kept separately.
  • Use account-wide theme and text-size defaults, or choose settings just for this browser. Conflicting settings require an explicit choice.
  • Continue reading when sign-in expires or syncing fails. Local saves are retained, and sign-out asks before discarding unsynced changes.
  • Older saves keep their chapter progress and migrate at chapter level because they did not record a complete choice path. Classic novels retain their authored player roles.
Version 2026.10.05.1

Your personas, NetFable’s history, and a place for your ideas

Create personas for stories where you play yourself, retain the authored roles in classics, and explore NetFable’s recorded history.

  • Create and manage private personas with a name, an uploaded avatar, a description, and optional pronoun notes. Edit, duplicate, delete, or choose a default from one library.
  • Choose a persona or play as yourself in self-insert stories. Your selection stays with each story; changing it during a chapter restarts that chapter. Story progress is currently shared across personas. Classic adaptations retain their authored player roles.
  • Names and avatars personalize your presence in the reader. Descriptions and pronouns are private notes; they do not rewrite a story’s dialogue, authored pronouns, or plot.
  • Keep personas on your device or in your signed-in account. Importing device personas into an account is an explicit choice.
  • Explore six earlier published versions, 297 historical change records, and a retained deployment ledger. Older change dates are distinguished from verified release dates, and deployment records do not imply an exact match to nearby changes.
  • Suggest improvements through the new Feature requests page. Suggestions are saved for review, with no promise that every requested feature will be added.
Version 2026.10.04.6

Know who you’re playing

Mr. Isaacs now makes your role as Paul Griggs explicit and distinguishes his speech from Isaacs’s replies.

  • The reader tells you that you play Paul Griggs in Mr. Isaacs.
  • Griggs’s spoken lines are labeled “You · Paul Griggs,” and Isaacs’s replies are labeled “Mr. Isaacs.”
  • Character actions, reflections, and narration remain separate from spoken dialogue.
Version 2026.10.04.5

Decisions have their own place

Story choices now have a presentation suited to both actions and conversation.

  • After you select an option, a neutral “Your choice” marker records your decision.
  • Speech bubbles are reserved for authored dialogue, so choosing an action does not make it look like something you said.
  • Mr. Isaacs’s opening instruction is presented as narration.
Version 2026.10.04.4

Updated chapters reach returning readers

A normal reload can now pick up the latest published story text instead of continuing to show an older saved copy.

  • The reader checks for updated chapter text when loading a story.
  • Returning readers can see published corrections without manually clearing their browser’s saved data.
Version 2026.10.04.3

A broader pass through choice wording

More one-chapter stories received the first-person wording update. A later release gave action choices their own presentation.

  • Reviewed additional action labels in older one-chapter stories and rewrote them in first person.
  • Version 2026.10.04.5 later replaced this wording approach with separate decision markers.
Version 2026.10.04.2

An initial update to choice wording

An initial update changed command-like choice labels into first-person wording.

  • Updated choice labels in one-chapter previews to read from the player’s point of view.
  • Later releases gave actions their own presentation, so an action no longer needs to be phrased like spoken dialogue.
Version 2026.10.04.1

501 more stories to begin

The library grew with 501 story previews, each ready to discover through its opening chapter.

  • Added 501 story previews to the catalogue.
  • Included story descriptions, posters, and banners to help you choose what to read next.

These versions describe verified published updates. Dates use Pacific time.

Pivot groundwork: plans, measurements and charters

Recorded the groundwork around the walala-style pivot: the decision record and offline drafting intake, the native-apps plan, the experience-strategy and design-committee reviews, the one-chapter audit, a measurement of what a serial opening asks, and the serial-completion committee's charter.

All 8 update records
  1. Maintenance

Ignored the social API key file so a generated key never lands in the repository.

  2. Planning

Added the native apps plan: milestones for Swift and Kotlin clients that reuse the web engine, with the engine contract gated on talk mode being validated.

  3. Planning

Recorded the experience-strategy document and the design committee's reviews of the Home, Browse and Library repositioning.

  4. Planning

Recorded the one-chapter story audit: which pilots exist, what finishing them takes, and how batches are chosen.

  5. Planning

Measured what a serial opening asks of its reader, finding the licensed serial library's first chapters follow one template.

  6. Maintenance

Refreshed the Discord poll statistics from the October 10 deploy.

  7. Planning

Decided the walala-style pivot and built its intake: a decision record in reports/, and the offline drafting tool that turns a source text into a .story pilot.

  8. Planning

Chartered the serial-completion committee: the standard for finishing all 488 one-chapter serials, the audit, and the writer queue.

5 records

Browser-error diagnostics and launch materials

Limited browser-error reporting was added and its publication was verified, with a matching privacy disclosure. Launch monitoring, draft social posts and scheduling details were also recorded as preparation.

All 5 update records
  1. Planning

Updated the launch operations guide with a capacity-monitoring plan for the existing hosting tier and a threshold for considering an upgrade.

  2. Planning

Drafted launch-day social posts and image descriptions, including AI disclosure. These were prepared posts, not a record that they were sent.

  3. Planning

Updated launch-guide account details and recorded that the Product Hunt launch had been scheduled manually. Public visibility was still awaiting the scheduled launch.

  4. Update

Added limited reporting of browser script failures to help diagnose reading problems, excluding unrelated injected scripts and removing email-like text from reports. Updated the privacy disclosure accordingly.

  5. Deployment record

Recorded publication and live verification of browser-error reporting and its privacy disclosure.

5 records

Light-theme readability and launch preparation

Muted text became more readable in the light theme, the theme switch became easier to tap and the Pregnancy shelf gained an introduction. Separate records refined launch guidance and imagery without treating the planned launch as already completed.

All 5 update records
  1. Planning

Expanded the Product Hunt materials into a submission and launch-day guide, including checks for the classics-only experience and accurate descriptions of complete and unfinished stories.

  2. Planning

Prepared a phone-reader image for the launch materials and recorded a planned September 30 launch. This was launch preparation, not confirmation that the launch had occurred.

  3. Update

Improved muted text contrast in the light theme and enlarged the footer's theme-switch target for easier tapping.

  4. Update

Added an introduction to the Pregnancy tag page describing the stories on that shelf, with copy suitable for its search preview.

  5. Deployment record

Recorded verified publication of the light-theme contrast improvement and Pregnancy shelf introduction after interrupted publishing attempts, followed by search-engine notification.

43 records

More useful story pages, accessibility and continued classics

Story discovery gained recommendations, fuller descriptions, reading times and a clearer classics starting point. Speaker turns reached scene chapters, two Wells serials expanded, accessibility and loading improved, and AI labels were corrected; community and launch preparation continued.

All 43 update records
  1. Update

Created dedicated Discord story-discussion threads for selected classics, with descriptions, artwork, genre tags and spoiler guidance.

  2. Update

Added blog guides to H. G. Wells and queer classics, and updated the Holmes guide to explain and link the available six-chapter arcs.

  3. Maintenance

Connected new-story announcements to automatic discussion-thread creation and added a link from each announcement to its thread when available.

  4. Deployment record

Recorded publication of complete in-app story blurbs, reading-time estimates and end-of-story sharing. Live checks confirmed the updated story page.

  5. Maintenance

Added internal Search Console reporting to assess discovery of story, genre, tag and blog pages, including careful handling of failed inspection requests.

  6. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the Wells and queer-classics blog posts, the revised Holmes guide and links back to those articles from relevant story pages.

  7. Planning

Corrected the IFDB and itch.io listing drafts to state that the extended chapters were AI-written and had not received human prose editing. These remained draft submissions.

  8. Update

Updated Discord's welcome post with linked channels, the current poll, its closing time and story discussions, with automatic refresh when a new poll starts.

  9. Maintenance

Added internal tracking of community-invite use and daily membership snapshots to understand whether site links lead to Discord joins.

  10. Planning

Drafted a Show HN introduction and checked hosting capacity before a possible launch. The draft disclosed AI-generated text and art and distinguished complete works from unfinished arcs and openings.

  11. Update

Added a subdued story-art background beside the desktop reader. The name dialog gained accessible labels and an Escape shortcut to continue without a name.

  12. Update

Added More like this recommendations to story pages and Read next recommendations after a story ends, using shared themes and genres and respecting age-rating boundaries.

  13. Update

Made the end-of-story community card link to the story's actual discussion thread and current poll when available, replacing unsupported claims about community activity.

  14. Update

Added keyboard shortcuts: / opens visible search, and number keys 1–9 select the corresponding story choice. Choice numbers appear on devices with a keyboard-style pointer.

  15. Maintenance

Merged the updated end-of-story community card into the active development branch.

  16. Update

Added a desktop navigation tagline explaining NetFable's free interactive stories, and included chapter reading-time estimates on public story landing pages.

  17. Update

Reorganized the classics page to lead with stories extending beyond their first chapter. Clearly distinguished complete works, continuing serials and opening chapters, and directed Start reading to that section.

  18. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the desktop tagline and landing-page reading times, along with preceding reader-art, recommendations and community-card updates.

  19. Update

Preserved the authored capitalization of scene locations in the reader header, so place names such as London and Baker Street remain correctly written.

  20. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the classics Start here section and the corrected scene-location labels, with the live classics page verified.

  21. Update

Extended one-tap speaker turns to scene chapters. Character entrances, exits and off-camera messages now end a turn appropriately so different voices are not grouped together.

  22. Update

Extended The Time Machine from one chapter to six, through the future world, Weena, the Morlocks and the dark wood. The adaptation was checked against the source text and remained an unpublished continuation at this record.

  23. Update

Extended The War of the Worlds from one chapter to six, through the cylinder, flight from the invasion and the collapsing house. The adaptation was checked against the source text and remained an unpublished continuation at this record.

  24. Update

Updated the two expanded Wells stories' blurbs and tags and prepared their evaluation record. These changes were awaiting deployment with the new chapters.

  25. Update

Made the Discord announcements channel followable from other servers and enabled publication of new announcements to those followers.

  26. Update

Added shelf introductions to in-app genre and tag views, matching the descriptive text already available on their public landing pages.

  27. Update

Added a real opening story choice to eligible Discord discussion starters, inviting readers to explain their decisions. Updated existing threads where a suitable short choice was available.

  28. Update

Reduced the Discord joining delay for newly created accounts while retaining verified-email and moderation requirements.

  29. Planning

Defined an evaluation plan for the new reading beats before interpreting their results, with minimum evidence requirements and a scheduled review. This was research planning, not a claim of improved retention.

  30. Planning

Revised that evaluation plan to compare the reading beats with the immediately preceding reader behavior rather than pooling older designs. No improvement claim was made.

  31. Maintenance

Corrected date boundaries in the evaluation plan's historical comparison table so its rows account for the same period.

  32. Update

Improved diagnostics for where reading stops when a page is hidden, feedback-form openings and broad device type. Updated privacy and storage disclosures to match the information actually recorded.

  33. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the two six-chapter Wells serials, their blurbs and tags, shelf introductions and the diagnostic and privacy updates.

  34. Update

Changed the AI-authorship label to “Generated by AI,” removing the unsupported claim that a person had edited every adaptation. Applied the same wording in the reader, public pages and related launch copy.

  35. Planning

Prepared a Product Hunt launch kit and removed an outdated completion-rate claim from launch drafts. The kit documented unresolved submission-policy questions rather than presenting them as settled.

  36. Planning

Updated Product Hunt launch guidance after checking the available submission tools and written rules. The launch still required manual website submission.

  37. Update

Prioritized the homepage's first large image and loaded the catalogue earlier, delaying competing thumbnails and slides to improve the first screen on slower connections.

  38. Update

Added a skip link and main-content landmark, enlarged small navigation targets and fixed keyboard handling so focused links open correctly from the reader.

  39. Update

Added a classics-only view for visits arriving from Product Hunt, consistently filtering browsing, search, recommendations and direct story lookups for that visit.

  40. Maintenance

Integrated the product branch into the main branch through pull request 5. This is a repository integration record, not evidence of a separate public release.

  41. Update

Prepared author pages for frequently adapted classic writers, links from stories to their tags, and consistent author spellings on an alternate branch. This work is outside the current product branch; its deployment is not established by this record.

  42. Maintenance

Integrated the product branch into the main branch through pull request 4. This is a repository integration record, not evidence of a separate public release.

  43. Maintenance

Integrated the product branch into the main branch through pull request 3. This is a repository integration record, not evidence of a separate public release.

28 records

Reader controls, better search and story sharing

Readers gained progress indication, text sizes, sharing, more helpful search and lighter story thumbnails. Story cards became links, serial blurbs and genre placement were improved, and chat chapters gained speaker-turn reading; community tools and external listing drafts also progressed.

All 28 update records
  1. Update

Improved page titles, adaptation credits, related-story links and blog links, and corrected duplicated author information. Duplicate genre-like tag pages were removed from search indexing; this update was not yet deployed in this record.

  2. Update

Made unsuccessful searches retry without filler words such as “story” or “romance,” while clearly telling readers which shorter search produced the results.

  3. Update

Added a Pregnancy tag and improved Steamy tagging and search aliases, with selected stories corrected by reading their premises.

  4. Update

Moved the reader-name question to the first line that actually uses the name. Stories without a personalized name no longer interrupt readers with that question.

  5. Maintenance

Stopped deployment early when the authored-story source folder is missing or empty, preventing an accidental publication without the adaptations.

  6. Deployment record

Recorded publication of improved search, new tags, the delayed name prompt and search-metadata changes. Live checks confirmed that the intended searches and name prompt worked.

  7. Update

Rewrote the ten expanded serial blurbs to describe their six-chapter arcs, improved short hooks and corrected several misleading tags. These copy changes were not yet deployed in this record.

  8. Planning

Adjusted the serial-evaluation start date to when all ten arcs were available, and updated authoring and publishing notes. No deployment was made for this documentation update.

  9. Update

Made story cards actual links, preserving in-app opening while supporting keyboard navigation and opening stories in another tab.

  10. Update

Moved Orlando and The Well of Loneliness to Out & Proud and aligned their genre descriptions. The move was awaiting a later deployment.

  11. Deployment record

Recorded publication of linked story cards and revised serial blurbs and tags. The build also temporarily included a broader reading-beat change; the two genre moves were not included in this deployment.

  12. Update

Prepared a temporary A Study in Scarlet homepage feature through October 2. The pin was committed but not yet deployed in this record.

  13. Planning

Drafted listings for the ten expanded serials on the Interactive Fiction Database, including play links, cover references and AI disclosures. These were prepared submissions, not a record of publication there.

  14. Update

Added tailored introductions to 28 tag pages and excluded very small tag shelves from search indexing. Also cleaned up genre and tag page titles.

  15. Update

Updated Discord genre tags, onboarding choices and catalogue wording to match the site's shelves. The changes were applied to the community server.

  16. Maintenance

Prepared automatic Discord announcements for new stories and chapters after deployment, excluding adult-rated stories. The announcement history still needed initialization before automation would run.

  17. Maintenance

Initialized the announcement history after the expanded classics were announced manually, enabling future deployments to announce only new material.

  18. Maintenance

Added the already published Winked catalogue to announcement history so it would not be mistaken for a batch of newly released stories.

  19. Update

Added chapter progress, adjustable reading text size, story sharing, clearer chapter lists and a more accessible mobile Read button. Search gained typo correction and more room on phones, and smaller poster thumbnails reduced image downloads.

  20. Planning

Clarified how catalogue genre overrides work and updated the internal status of the serial campaign, proposed listings and homepage feature.

  21. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the reader controls, sharing, search and thumbnail improvements from a clean source snapshot. The preceding temporary broader reading-beat version was replaced by this build.

  22. Update

Started weekly Discord polls based on real story choices, with a first Carmilla poll and later result summaries. Adult-rated stories are excluded from these polls.

  23. Update

Changed chat chapters so one tap reveals the current speaker's short run of messages, pausing when another speaker responds or the screen fills. Scene dialogue retained its existing behavior at this stage.

  24. Deployment record

Recorded publication and live verification of the chat-only speaker-turn reading change.

  25. Deployment record

Corrected the deployment record to confirm that A Study in Scarlet's temporary homepage feature and the two Out & Proud genre moves had gone live with the earlier reader-controls release.

  26. Update

Added full blurbs and estimated reading times to in-app story pages, plus sharing at a story's end. Desktop reading hints now mention clicking or Space, and the mobile error-page buttons have clearer spacing.

  27. Planning

Drafted ten itch.io story listings and three blog changes for the expanded serials. The blog copy was deliberately kept outside the publishing source until reviewed.

  28. Maintenance

Integrated the product branch into the main branch through pull request 2. This is a repository integration record, not evidence of a separate public release.

30 records

Longer classic serials and authorship disclosures

Several opening chapters became six-chapter serial arcs, and reader credit names gained broader language support. Authorship and cover-art disclosures were introduced, alongside more reliable publication and catalogue-date tracking; the original authorship label was corrected later.

All 30 update records
  1. Maintenance

Fixed missing records for genre and tag browsing, added reader-build identifiers to diagnostics, and added checks before publication to catch missing event support. Deployment tooling can now build stories from a chosen source snapshot.

  2. Maintenance

Corrected internal reports to count distinct devices rather than calling them sessions, exclude development traffic and flag samples too small for reliable comparisons.

  3. Planning

Documented the limits of the available usage evidence and corrected earlier unsupported claims about discovery, ranking and referrals. This was an internal analysis correction.

  4. Planning

Prepared a ten-story serial-development shortlist, reporting tools and tagged links to help decide which openings to extend. This changed no reader behavior and was not deployed.

  5. Update

Extended A Study in Scarlet from one chapter to six, following the Brixton investigation through the second crime scene and Jefferson Hope's name. This remained an unfinished serial and was not yet deployed in this record.

  6. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the five-post blog and the six-chapter A Study in Scarlet arc, with related catalogue pages updated.

  7. Maintenance

Fixed a reporting error that interrupted analytics processing when community links had been clicked, and added coverage for every report section.

  8. Update

Extended The Castle of Otranto from one chapter to six, through the underground escape and sanctuary to the enormous sword. This remained an unfinished serial and was not yet deployed in this record.

  9. Update

Extended Pinocchio from one chapter to six, covering Geppetto's arrest, the cricket, new feet and the puppet theatre. The arc ends with Fire-Eater and was not yet deployed in this record.

  10. Update

Allowed reader credit names to use letters from any writing system, accents, hyphens and apostrophes, while retaining safeguards against misleading or invalid names.

  11. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the six-chapter Otranto and Pinocchio arcs and the improved handling of reader names.

  12. Update

Extended The Sign of the Four from one chapter to six, through Pondicherry Lodge and the trail that identifies the Aurora. This remained an unfinished serial and was not yet deployed in this record.

  13. Update

Extended The Invisible Man from one chapter to six, following the stranger's arrival through the revelation at the inn and footprints left behind. This remained an unfinished serial and was not yet deployed in this record.

  14. Update

Extended The Island of Doctor Moreau from one chapter to six, taking the narrator to the island, the forest and Moreau's explanation. This remained an unfinished serial and was not yet deployed in this record.

  15. Maintenance

Removed duplicate blog URLs from the sitemap and made blog update dates respond to changes in the full article, rather than only its title and description.

  16. Maintenance

Improved referral attribution for links carrying source labels, including links opened without a referring-page header. Updated privacy and cookie descriptions to match.

  17. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the corrected blog sitemap and the six-chapter arcs for The Sign of the Four, The Invisible Man and The Island of Doctor Moreau.

  18. Maintenance

Prevented simultaneous deployment runs from overwriting the same build folders and risking an incomplete publication.

  19. Update

Marked the project's authored adaptations as AI-generated while leaving the licensed stories' text authorship unspecified. The label then available also claimed human editing; that unsupported wording was corrected in a later update.

  20. Maintenance

Added the missing AI-authorship declarations to Orlando and The Well of Loneliness after their scripts changed during the preceding update.

  21. Deployment record

Recorded publication of authorship labels across the catalogue. The historical label included a human-editing claim that was corrected later.

  22. Maintenance

Prevented publication of refreshed reading statistics from overlapping a site deployment, while allowing the underlying reporting work to continue.

  23. Maintenance

Made story-page update dates track the rendered page so changes to credits, descriptions and other visible content are reflected in search-engine notifications.

  24. Maintenance

Made analytics downloads replace the saved file only after a complete successful write, protecting reports from empty or partial data.

  25. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the new story-page date tracking and a one-time search-engine refresh of the existing story pages.

  26. Maintenance

Applied the same complete-write protection to published reading statistics, preventing readers and deployments from seeing a partial statistics file.

  27. Update

Added AI-generated cover-art disclosures throughout the catalogue, including licensed stories whose text authorship remains unspecified.

  28. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the cover-art disclosures across the catalogue and additional serial content present in that build.

  29. Update

Extended She from one chapter to six, through the voyage, the Amahagger and the audience with Ayesha. The unfinished arc was already live from the preceding deployment when this commit was recorded.

  30. Update

Extended Great Expectations from one chapter to six, through the stolen file and pie, Satis House and the secret benefactor's offer. The unfinished arc was already live from the preceding deployment when this commit was recorded.

Recorded publication of the updated policy-page tracking and privacy disclosure, with the four affected pages submitted to search engines.

  4. Maintenance

Merged the five-post editorial blog into the active site while keeping the newer feedback flow. Resolved duplicate form, database and outdated privacy-copy conflicts during the merge.

5 records

Classic-library descriptions and search metadata were corrected, and sign-in email gained request limits. Feedback delivery and publication retries were developed, with the initial notification integration still awaiting a verified live delivery.

All 5 update records
  1. Update

Corrected the classics page's catalogue count and earliest-author attribution. Added a public catalogue guide for automated readers explaining that the classics are interactive adaptations.

  2. Maintenance

Added limits on sign-in email requests to protect delivery availability and reduce unsolicited messages. A known reservation-recovery limitation remained documented.

  3. Maintenance

Made the classics page's sitemap date and search-engine notifications respond to edits to its actual text. The changed page was subsequently submitted successfully.

  4. Update

Added a footer feedback form with saved submissions, abuse controls and a privacy disclosure, plus a team-notification integration. Real notification delivery was not verified in this branch record.

  5. Maintenance

Separated chapter-update email sending from sign-in email and added retries to unreliable database and publication steps. The publication retry succeeded after earlier connection failures.

Story discovery, tags and the editorial blog

Browsing gained searchable themes and rotating selections, and the first blog guides were added. Follow-up fixes improved navigation out of search suggestions, share previews and preservation of published reading statistics.

All 11 update records
  1. Maintenance

Documented that preview builds can alter stored sitemap dates, and recorded the restoration of dates changed by trial builds.

  2. Update

Redesigned browsing with searchable trope tags, rotating story selections, shorter mobile artwork and a Most read row based on reader activity. Added dedicated tag pages and replaced the misleading longest-stories-based Top 10.

  3. Deployment record

Recorded publication of the redesigned front page and 35 tag pages, with search engines notified of the new pages.

  4. Maintenance

Stopped failed or empty analytics downloads from replacing previously collected data, protecting reports and the statistics shown to readers.

  5. Update

Moved trope tags into the empty search screen and no-results screen, and added Browse by tag to the footer. The front page gives more space to stories and artwork.

  6. Update

Added the editorial blog and its first two posts, plus chapter information in story pages' search metadata. This created no separate public page for each chapter.

  7. Maintenance

Preserved published choice statistics and Most read rankings across deployments instead of replacing them with an empty placeholder.

  8. Update

Added three blog guides covering where to start with Sherlock Holmes, short classics for an evening, and the Brontë sisters.

  9. Update

Added visible ways to leave the search-tag suggestions screen, including All stories, the clear button, Escape and clicking outside its controls.

  10. Update

Added illustrated share previews to blog posts and linked the blog from the homepage's fallback content. Also documented how blog pages are built.

  11. Update

Fixed stale search-tag screen state that could leave the clear button visible or unexpectedly return readers to the library.

Reading beats and email reliability work

Narration began arriving in short reading beats, and search engines gained notifications about published changes. Work on optional chapter emails remained disabled while reliability and request protections were improved; several later fixes were still unpublished at their records.

All 13 update records
  1. Maintenance

Added internal reporting tools to compare website usage with search referrals and infrastructure traffic, helping distinguish readers from automated requests.

  2. Update

Added IndexNow notifications so search engines can discover changed and removed pages after publication. The integration was deployed and its first submission was accepted.

  3. Update

Updated the application gate to permit Singapore and Taiwan. A separate network rule still required an update, so this commit alone did not fully restore access there.

  4. Update

Prepared optional email requests for new serial chapters, with confirmation and unsubscribe controls. The code was deployed with the feature switched off pending further reliability work.

  5. Maintenance

Hardened the disabled chapter-email feature against simultaneous requests, improved failed-send responses and expiry handling, and updated its privacy disclosure. This deployment kept the feature switched off.

  6. Update

Changed reading from one tap per narration line to short narrative beats that continue until dialogue or the screen's space limit. This reading change was deployed.

  7. Maintenance

Corrected the deployment command for IndexNow so automatic search-engine notifications can run after publishing.

  8. Maintenance

Added protection against overlapping chapter-email sends and reserved sending capacity before delivery. This work was not deployed in this record, and the feature remained disabled.

  9. Maintenance

Prepared routine cleanup of unconfirmed chapter-email requests and corrected the wording around their retention period. This work was not deployed in this record, and the feature remained disabled.

  10. Maintenance

Improved retry guidance and request limits for readers following several serials, avoiding an unconditional promise that a confirmation email was sent. This work was not deployed in this record, and the feature remained disabled.

  11. Maintenance

Improved recovery when a chapter-email request fails after reserving sending capacity, allowing later retries to work. This work was not deployed in this record, and the feature remained disabled.

  12. Maintenance

Added checks to reject chapter-email requests initiated by unrelated websites. This change was not yet deployed.

  13. Maintenance

Added similar protections to email sign-in, age confirmation and sign-out requests. This change was not yet deployed; further sign-in email limits were still outstanding.

Winked stories, artwork, and remembered choices

Records on this date document Winked catalogue work, large artwork batches, consistent branding, and changes explicitly deployed during September 16–19. Story values could persist across chapters and resolve conditional follow-ups, while adult chapters retained gated access in separate storage. Build tools and artwork provenance were recorded, folders reorganized, and landing-page handoffs improved.

All 12 update records
  1. Update

Added reviewed posters and banners for all ninety-three Winked storylines. Improved banner cropping to keep faces in frame and retained originals for future recrops.

  2. Deployment record

Recorded 401 classic-serial posters and banners as live on September 19, with all 802 served files checked against their prepared images.

  3. Maintenance

Committed the conversion, verification, gated-storage sync, and image-generation tools already used by the deployed site, making the existing build reproducible from its source history.

  4. Deployment record

Recorded the September 19 deployment of a consistent NetFable mark and icon family, generated from one master shape across browser and app icons.

  5. Deployment record

Recorded changes deployed during September 16–19: Winked stories, remembered story values, conditional follow-up branches, and variable text. Adult chapters moved to separate gated storage while retaining their age check and private response behavior.

  6. Deployment record

Recorded the September 19 deployment of titles, descriptions, and genres for ninety-three Winked stories, plus updated genre descriptions.

  7. Maintenance

Recorded prompts and cast counts for an earlier artwork batch, preserving how existing licensed-story and classic-serial covers were prepared.

  8. Deployment record

Recorded the September 19 live artwork set for 291 stories: 291 posters and 290 banners. Uncle Tom's Cabin had a poster only in this batch.

  9. Maintenance

Documented how the 401 classic-serial cover pairs were generated and reviewed, including checks for appropriate characters and readable titles. Added safeguards against unintentionally regenerating a whole batch.

  10. Maintenance

Reorganized catalogue records, artwork, and operations tools into clearer folders. A comparison build verified that the reorganization itself did not change the generated site or gated story files.

  11. Maintenance

Corrected two tool usage examples after the folder reorganization so their documented paths still work.

  12. Deployment record

Recorded the September 19 deployment of improved handoffs from public landing pages into the reader, reducing duplicate search URLs. Older story links, browser history, and age checks continued to work.

Added descriptions for the 400 new serial openings, checked against their actual chapters to avoid promising later events or optional scenes as guaranteed.

  2. Update

Rewrote twelve genre descriptions whose story counts and examples had become outdated after the classic-serial expansion.

  3. Maintenance

Synchronized titles, genres, ratings, sources, and provenance with all 556 committed story scripts, adding the missing metadata for the new serials.

Classic serial openings and requests for more

Ninety-nine classic openings gained serial labels, descriptions, and a request-for-the-next-chapter action. The records also reveal and fix an initial deployment-source mistake that had prevented their scripts from being included. The Tale of Genji remained held.

All 3 update records
  1. Update

Prepared ninety-nine one-chapter classic serials, an ask-for-more action, and new Coming of Age and Social Protest shelves. The Tale of Genji remained held; a later record explains that the initial deployment did not include these scripts.

  2. Update

Added chapter-specific descriptions for the ninety-nine classic serials and corrected singular chapter and scene wording. Descriptions focus on what the available opening actually contains.

  3. Maintenance

Moved the ninety-nine serial scripts into the source location used by deployments, fixing the earlier build that had reported success without including them. The held Tale of Genji stayed excluded.

Catalogue growth and more complete interaction

The recorded MeChat expansion was accompanied by nested-choice support, English chapter corrections, and removal of misleading coin prices. Adult chapter access moved behind a server check, featured stories resumed a true daily rotation, and search and build checks were strengthened for a larger catalogue.

All 8 update records
  1. Update

Improved browsing and search performance as the catalogue grows, and limited very broad search rendering to sixty results. Strengthened authoring checks against duplicate story IDs, missing ratings, and inconsistent genres.

  2. Update

Replaced thirty-three unintended Chinese chapter copies with the available English versions and removed coin-price badges from free choices. Chapter identifiers were preserved for existing progress.

  3. Update

Added fourteen reviewed MeChat storylines with editorial ratings, titles, descriptions, and genre placement. Updated genre descriptions to match the enlarged selection.

  4. Update

Protected adult chapter text and community branches with a server-checked age-confirmation cookie instead of relying only on a browser dialog. Removed stale public chapter copies and prevented shared caching of gated text.

  5. Update

Restored daily rotation of the featured story and added automatic expiry for editorial pins. Rotation follows the reader's local date and refreshes when an open tab returns on a new day.

  6. Update

Made nested choices playable and returned readers to the surrounding branch afterward. Hidden outfit checks now resolve automatically instead of displaying empty buttons, and text cleanup reaches nested branches.

  7. Update

Recorded the addition of 180 further MeChat stories after editorial and content review, with adult titles placed behind the age gate. Twenty-three other entries remained held or excluded.

  8. Maintenance

Recorded page-change dates for the 180 new story landing pages so the sitemap reflects the expanded catalogue.

Readers help choose the next classic

Readers gained dedicated ways to request classic adaptations and receive credit when a requested story is added. Reader-choice statistics also began excluding recognized testing and crawler sessions.

All 3 update records
  1. Update

Added ways to request the next classic from the footer, completed adaptations, and classics page. The standalone request form also works without JavaScript.

  2. Update

Added public credit for readers who requested a story, shown on its detail page, landing page, and classics listing. Also fixed light-theme credit visibility on phones.

  3. Maintenance

Excluded recognized testing and crawler sessions from reader-choice statistics and reports, reducing the chance that test selections appear as reader preferences.

Tap-to-advance and reader feedback

Reading changed to tap-to-advance, and waiting gates became narrative time cues. The classics directory, optional feedback prompts, improved phone layouts, and larger social touch targets made the site easier to use. The Wizard of Oz opening also gained more immediate decisions.

All 8 update records
  1. Update

Changed the reader to tap-to-advance, with keyboard support, and converted waiting gates into story-time cues. On phones, featured stories use readable posters, and teasers draw from written descriptions.

  2. Deployment record

Added the classics directory with authors, years, and source editions for public-domain adaptations. The commit records that this change was part of the tested and deployed site.

  3. Update

Added optional exit reasons, end-of-chapter reactions, and a free-text feedback box that does not require an account. Updated privacy information and improved attribution of how readers reach the site.

  4. Maintenance

Excluded machine-specific development-session files from version control so local launch settings do not enter shared project history.

  5. Deployment record

Recorded the live revision of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz's opening, with decisions about preparing for the approaching storm. Corrected Brontë source credits on the classics page.

  6. Update

Gave the classics page the same shared social-link footer used across the rest of NetFable.

  7. Update

Enlarged social-link touch targets to 44 pixels while keeping the icons visually compact and aligned on phones.

  8. Update

Improved spacing and placeholder text in the mobile feedback form so the name field and Send action remain clear.

7 records

Community onboarding and clearer posters

Community setup gained clearer introductions, forums, role ordering, and a permanent welcome-channel invite. Poster badges were removed to protect painted titles, and page-change tracking began including editorial copy.

All 7 update records
  1. Update

Directed community entry points to a permanent Discord welcome-channel invite, giving new members a clearer place to begin.

  2. Maintenance

Recorded a repeatable community-server setup and its supporting brand assets so channels, roles, and onboarding can be maintained consistently.

  3. Maintenance

Consolidated community and platform branding assets into one directory and corrected the setup tools' paths.

  4. Update

Prepared community introductions and discussion forums with clearer onboarding and moderator-managed status tags. Improved setup reliability and preserved existing forum tags and invites.

  5. Maintenance

Corrected community role ordering so displayed roles and the automation permissions match the intended hierarchy.

  6. Maintenance

Included story descriptions, chapter names, and genre copy in page-change tracking so meaningful editorial rewrites update sitemap dates.

  7. Update

Removed scene-count badges from poster artwork because they could obscure painted titles. Chapter and scene counts remain on story detail pages.

23 records

Accounts, attribution, and community foundations

This day recorded authorship labels, submissions, initial community-branch tools, and several iterations of sign-in. Email login was held and disabled during unsuccessful delivery attempts, then enabled after a successful service test; browser navigation to sign-in was also repaired. Smaller updates covered story continuity, icons, social links, and the analytics policy then in effect.

All 23 update records
  1. Update

Added visible authorship and artwork declarations, including an explicit “Authorship not stated” label, and documented outside-story submissions. An initial human-written filter was introduced here and removed later the same day.

  2. Update

Added the first account and credited community-branch infrastructure, initially with Discord sign-in support. Community branches could be entered editorially; automatic branch generation was not part of this phase.

  3. Reverted change

Removed the newly introduced human-written browse filter while keeping individual authorship labels. Cleared its saved preference so readers could not remain stuck in a hidden filtered view.

  4. Update

Hid sign-in controls when no provider is configured, avoiding a button that leads to an unavailable service. Existing signed-in readers could still sign out.

  5. Update

Added Google sign-in alongside the then-supported Discord option and let readers choose their public display name. Signing in again preserves the name chosen on NetFable.

  6. Update

Configured Google sign-in and expanded repository safeguards for downloaded provider credential files.

  7. Update

Replaced the account icon with a clear Sign in label; signed-in readers see their chosen name on the control.

  8. Update

Replaced the sign-in dropdown with an accessible dialog presenting the available providers, their logos, and readable terms and privacy links.

  9. Update

Replaced Discord sign-in with an email-link flow alongside Google. The email option was initially dormant pending delivery setup, while Discord remained available as the community destination.

  10. Update

Required a configured, deliverable email sender before offering email sign-in, preventing a misleading inbox prompt when no message could arrive.

  11. Reverted change

Turned email sign-in back off after a live test showed the initial mail service could not deliver to new readers. Google remained the available sign-in option at this point.

  12. Update

Replaced the initial mail integration with Resend for sign-in links. Delivery failures now produce a service error and release the failed request's temporary throttle.

  13. Planning

Kept email sign-in hidden while the replacement mail service awaited domain verification. This was a recorded hold, not an available email-login release.

  14. Update

Enabled email sign-in after a delivery-simulator test confirmed that the sending domain was authorized to send through Resend.

  15. Update

Shortened the sign-in explanation so the dialog states the benefit of an account more directly.

  16. Update

Fixed browser navigation to sign-in, administration, and artwork routes being intercepted as missing static pages. Sign-in links now reach the intended application handlers.

  17. Maintenance

Documented the difference between browser navigation and ordinary API requests that caused the sign-in routing failure, improving future deployment checks.

  18. Maintenance

Added tools for preparing community-choice writing sheets and validating submitted branches against the current story, cast, and choice positions.

  19. Maintenance

Made the writers' room preparation and branch-import workflow repeatable, including regeneration of choice references before accepting submissions.

  20. Update

Removed the analytics consent banner and made analytics load by default at that time. Updated the cookie and privacy pages to describe the actual analytics and account behavior.

  21. Update

Redesigned the small NetFable icon for clearer visibility on dark browser tabs and applied the same favicon across landing pages, genres, and the app.

  22. Update

Corrected the nighttime sequence in The Prisoner of Zenda and clarified two setting labels and narration passages in The First Men in the Moon. Saved chapter positions remain compatible.

  23. Update

Added official social links as one consistent footer row across the site, alongside the existing Discord community entry.

Original fiction and stronger discovery

What the Archive Kept introduced original fiction, with its description and artwork. Search began recognizing story identifiers and casts, and descriptions covered all stories and genres then present. A five-story featured carousel was prepared and explicitly recorded as not yet live at that commit.

All 9 update records
  1. Update

Revised The First Men in the Moon to keep narration closer to the reader's character without moving saved chapter positions. Regenerated A Little Princess's poster so its full title fits inside the image.

  2. Update

Added What the Archive Kept, a sixteen-chapter original mystery in which the reader is a documentary sound editor assembling evidence about research misconduct.

  3. Update

Moved What the Archive Kept's preliminary disclaimers to its closing notes so the opening begins with the scene. Its chapter identities and reading progress remain compatible.

  4. Update

Added a story-specific description for What the Archive Kept, explaining its opening situation and the reader's role.

  5. Deployment record

Recorded live poster and banner artwork for What the Archive Kept, drawn from its opening sound-editing scene. The then-current catalogue had matching posters and banners for all 225 stories.

  6. Update

Prepared a five-story featured carousel with dots, desktop arrows, phone swipes, keyboard controls, and motion-aware autoplay. The commit explicitly recorded that this locally checked feature was not yet live.

  7. Maintenance

Added measurement of visible story shelves, search attempts, and browsing exits to help distinguish discovery problems from early departures. Repeated rendering no longer inflates shelf impressions.

  8. Update

Completed written descriptions for all 225 stories then in the catalogue and added descriptions for all eighteen genres, based on their actual contents.

  9. Update

Expanded search to include story identifiers and casts, so queries such as “pirate” or “vampire” can find stories with less literal display titles. Improved prefix matching and handling of editorial title changes.

Young Readers and a fully illustrated catalogue

Twenty more adaptations and a Young Readers shelf joined the catalogue, followed by artwork completing the then-current library. Existing adaptations received revisions, descriptions and chapter names expanded, and light-theme artwork improved. Regional access rules and their supporting maintenance were also recorded.

All 13 update records
  1. Update

Added twenty adaptations, including Little Women, The Secret Garden, Herland, and The Moonstone, and introduced a Young Readers shelf. The unchanged Boats of the Glen Carrig submission remained held.

  2. Planning

Prepared story-specific poster and banner prompts for twenty uncovered adaptations, with varied framing and recognizable characters. This record queued artwork; it did not itself add the finished images.

  3. Update

Added regional access restrictions for mainland China and a clear unavailable-in-your-region response. Unknown location results were allowed through.

  4. Update

Extended regional access restrictions to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, and redesigned the explanation page in NetFable's visual style.

  5. Maintenance

Updated cover-art standards and automated checks to emphasize larger faces, readable titles, genre cues, and appropriate casts at mobile card size.

  6. Deployment record

Recorded live artwork for the last twenty-one uncovered stories, bringing the then-current catalogue to 224 posters and 224 banners. Prompts were revised to improve character and title visibility.

  7. Update

Added prepared story descriptions and chapter names across the catalogue, expanding editorial copy without replacing existing entries.

  8. Maintenance

Recorded an analytics baseline for comparing later reading changes. This was an internal measurement record, not a new reader feature.

  9. Maintenance

Added a repeatable way to apply regional restrictions at the network edge, reducing unnecessary application-server work.

  10. Maintenance

Added a safe verification path for the regional restriction setup and expanded protection against accidentally committing local credential files.

  11. Maintenance

Restored direct serving of static pages and chapter files after the regional rule was verified at the network edge. Application routes kept their fallback protection.

  12. Update

Accepted revisions to ten classic adaptations, tightening prose and updating chapter labels while preserving every chapter identifier and saved place. The unchanged held Boats of the Glen Carrig submission remained excluded.

  13. Update

Kept the homepage artwork and its text readable in light mode by using a consistent dark overlay, with a smoother transition into the shelves.

8 records

Smoother reading controls

Fast-forward and waiting-scene behavior were refined so choices and story pacing were easier to follow. Embedded-reader exports caught up with the broader catalogue, while reporting better distinguished sessions and recognized crawlers.

All 8 update records
  1. Maintenance

Rebuilt the embedded-reader export from current site data and enabled standalone story bundles. Chapter wording now follows each story's setting instead of assuming every story is a romance chat.

  2. Update

Made the waiting-scene wording gender-neutral so it also fits stories whose lead character is not a man.

  3. Maintenance

Preserved The Boats of the Glen Carrig's prepared copy outside the active catalogue while the story remained held, avoiding misleading build warnings.

  4. Maintenance

Improved reading reports to distinguish recognized crawlers from readers and to measure sessions rather than misleading raw event totals. Only a bot flag is stored from this check.

  5. Update

Made fast-forward stop at each choice or skipped wait so later branches no longer rush past automatically. Applied the same behavior to embedded readers.

  6. Update

Selected The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as the featured story and refreshed recorded page-change dates.

  7. Update

Simplified waiting scenes with readable durations and moved the skip action into the reader's normal choice area.

  8. Update

Skipped empty opening and closing wait gates and presented completed waits as story-time transitions. In-scene waits still paused at this stage of the reader's development.

7 records

Faster artwork and stronger builds

Poster loading began following the visible area, with improvements measured on the live mobile site. The build process gained protection against stale or incomplete output. Anne of Green Gables, adaptation descriptions, story revisions, and additional artwork were also recorded.

All 7 update records
  1. Maintenance

Changed deployments to rebuild story data and pages from clean output directories, preventing removed stories from lingering. A failed build keeps the previous complete site intact.

  2. Deployment record

Changed poster loading to fetch artwork only near the visible area. Measurements on the live mobile site confirmed a substantial reduction in unnecessary image downloads.

  3. Update

Moved the homepage featured artwork clear of navigation so its painted title remains readable at phone, tablet, and desktop widths.

  4. Update

Added more posters and banners, including artwork prepared for a held story. Strengthened artwork checks for visible faces and legible titles; artwork alone did not release a held story.

  5. Update

Revised The Blue Castle with clearer chapter titles, more varied narration, and improved scene transitions and dialogue continuity.

  6. Update

Added the seventy-six-chapter Anne of Green Gables adaptation and written descriptions for all thirty-seven adaptations then in the catalogue.

  7. Update

Added Anne of Green Gables poster and banner artwork featuring Marilla and Matthew, with Anne remaining the reader's role.

Story URLs began preserving the selected title, and editorial copy tools were added. Held-story and stale-build issues were recorded and addressed, with further build safeguards following the next day.

All 24 update records
  1. Update

Added seventeen classic adaptations, including Treasure Island, Pride and Prejudice, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Boats of the Glen Carrig remained held for a pacing rewrite; duplicate submissions were reconciled and genre shelves consolidated.

  2. Update

Added twelve posters and ten banners for recently added adaptations. Titles still awaiting artwork kept their generated covers.

  3. Update

Added the poster for The Blue Castle to complete an image omitted from the preceding artwork commit.

  4. Update

Adjusted story banners to show their full image and painted title, with reading controls beneath the frame. Story pages also stopped placing the search field over the artwork.

  5. Update

Refined desktop story banners to avoid colored side bars and overlapping controls. Removed repeated homepage branding and softened the transition into the story shelves.

  6. Update

Moved desktop story controls onto a darkened section of the banner and kept their text readable in both themes. Mobile controls remained below the image.

  7. Update

Expanded story banners across the screen, using a blurred copy of the image to fill wide side areas. Added a top fade to protect navigation legibility.

  8. Maintenance

Reduced the blur used behind wide banners to lower rendering work and help the artwork appear sooner.

  9. Update

Put the selected story in the browser address so bookmarks, shared links, refresh, Back, and Forward preserve the story destination. Refresh opens its detail page with reading progress.

  10. Update

Shortened desktop story banners so the chapter list sits closer to the reading controls, while keeping painted titles at the top. Mobile banners retained the whole image and cleared the fixed navigation.

  11. Update

Removed the extra rule beneath the final chapter row and added clearer spacing before the footer.

  12. Update

Reorganized the footer, added a contact entry point, and fixed stale theme-control labels. Browsing home from its footer link now avoids an unnecessary page reload.

  13. Update

Added dedicated pages for all seventeen genres, with story artwork, counts, and links back from individual stories. Genre navigation was also exposed in the footer.

  14. Update

Fixed genre deep links being replaced by the full library when newer artwork settings finished loading.

  15. Update

Added a dedicated Browse by genre page and an All genres return link. Genre colors now match between the app and static pages.

  16. Update

Improved homepage sharing and search metadata, breadcrumbs, working search links, and no-script navigation. Sitemap dates now change when the corresponding page changes instead of on every build.

  17. Update

Gave genre views their canonical page addresses while preserving older query links and browser history. Fixed chapter downloads when a reader starts from a genre page.

  18. Update

Improved page headings, search descriptions, missing-page navigation, font loading, and HTTPS protection after a site audit. The record also noted redirect behavior still controlled by the hosting layer.

  19. Update

Fixed the server route so missing links display NetFable's useful 404 page with navigation while retaining the correct not-found status.

  20. Update

Added editorial story descriptions and chapter-name overrides that appear consistently in both landing pages and the reader. Seed descriptions were included for four stories.

  21. Update

Added the seventy-six-chapter Mary Barton adaptation. The Boats of the Glen Carrig remained held for revision, and stale generated copies of the held story were removed from the build.

  22. Maintenance

Documented a build-output problem that could leave removed or held stories in generated files, together with the requirement to rebuild from an empty output directory.

  23. Maintenance

Removed obsolete sitemap-date records during full builds and protected those records from changes during partial test builds.

  24. Update

Removed the theme toggle from the compact reader bar, keeping theme settings in the footer and respecting the device preference by default.

2 records

Clearer story-card information

Rating wording changed to “Rated 18,” while card badges focused on scene counts. Rating details and the existing age-confirmation behavior remained available at the story level.

All 2 update records
  1. Update

Changed the adult rating label from “18+” to “Rated 18” throughout the interface. The same stories continued to require age confirmation.

  2. Update

Standardized story-card badges around scene counts and moved rating details to story pages. Also corrected inconsistent scene-count wording.

More consistent names, themes, and shared links

Editorial title and character changes became consistent across the reader. Theme controls moved out of crowded navigation, and story artwork began appearing in public landing pages and link previews.

All 4 update records
  1. Update

Added editorial display-title changes across story cards, featured stories, detail pages, reader headings, and search while preserving saved-progress identifiers. Static landing pages receive the new title on their next build.

  2. Update

Added consistent editorial character renaming across speaker labels, dialogue, and narration. Name matching avoids changing longer names or unrelated words accidentally.

  3. Update

Moved theme controls out of crowded top navigation and into the reader and footer, giving mobile search more room. The reader copy of the control was removed in a later update.

  4. Update

Added artwork to story landing pages, social-link previews, search metadata, and image sitemaps. Public previews for adult-rated stories retained safe generated artwork.

Artwork management

Local and hosted tools made it easier to prepare and update story illustrations. The hosted workflow was explicitly verified against the production site, allowing cover changes without a complete rebuild.

All 2 update records
  1. Maintenance

Added a local artwork manager with upload, crop previews, missing-art filters, removal, and deployment controls to improve cover preparation.

  2. Deployment record

Added a hosted artwork management panel and verified it on production. Updated covers can reach the reader without rebuilding the whole site.

8 records

Classic adaptations, search, and story artwork

The catalogue expanded with classic adaptations and a fictional contemporary drama. Search, chapter contents, editorial featuring, and separate poster and banner slots made the growing library easier to explore.

All 8 update records
  1. Update

Added a twelve-chapter adaptation of A Scandal in Bohemia and introduced the Mystery shelf. Fixed a compiler issue that ignored the author's declared maturity rating.

  2. Update

Added the eighteen-chapter fictional drama My Girlfriend Tessa Lin. Names, locations, and disclaimers were revised to establish a fictional cast and setting.

  3. Update

Connected supplied poster artwork to the site build. Stories without an illustration continue to use a generated cover.

  4. Update

Added separate landscape banners for featured stories and story pages, with readable text in both themes. Posters and banners can be supplied independently.

  5. Update

Added editorial featuring so a shorter story can lead the homepage instead of relying solely on the rotation of longer titles.

  6. Maintenance

Removed artwork from generated output when its source image is deleted, so taking an image down also removes the old publicly addressable file.

  7. Update

Added sixteen adaptation installments covering thirteen public-domain works, including seasonal presentations of Dracula and The Picture of Dorian Gray. Replaced the earlier Carmilla and A Scandal in Bohemia prototypes with fuller adaptations and organized the new titles into established genres.

  8. Update

Added title, genre, and teaser search with ranked results. Story landing pages gained chapter contents, while mobile search kept the home link visible.

A broader format for interactive stories

Community links and a script-authoring workflow joined the reader. Stories gained their own chapter kinds and named transitions, while a brief experiment with a separate prose renderer was introduced and then reverted.

All 5 update records
  1. Update

Added Discord community entry points in navigation, story endings, waiting scenes, and page footers. Tapping a link inside a story no longer accidentally activates fast-forward.

  2. Update

Added a plain-text authoring and checking workflow for NetFable stories, with a four-chapter Carmilla prototype. Scene arrivals use neutral wording, named locations display correctly, and story teasers avoid stray speaker labels.

  3. Update

Let stories describe chapters as letters, investigations, memories, or other scene types instead of inheriting romance-specific labels. Carmilla's letters chapter demonstrates narration mixed with an exchange.

  4. Update

Introduced an experimental prose-page presentation alongside the conversation view, plus named transitions and character arrivals. The prose renderer was removed in the following update; named chapter kinds and transitions remained.

  5. Reverted change

Removed the experimental prose renderer and returned Carmilla to the shared thread presentation. Stories retained their own chapter labels and written transitions.

3 records

NetFable’s first reader

The first recorded build established the interactive-story reader, chapter downloads, and story ratings. It also introduced a repeatable deployment process and reading-event collection; the initial record explicitly describes the site as live.

All 3 update records
  1. Deployment record

Recorded the first NetFable interactive-fiction reader, already live at netfable.com, with a chapter-at-a-time library, story ratings, and an age-confirmation flow.

  2. Maintenance

Added a repeatable build-and-deploy command so site settings, analytics configuration, and age-gate policy stay consistent between updates.

  3. Maintenance

Added NetFable's own reading-event collection to understand chapter starts, choices, and completions. Event delivery runs without making readers wait, and malformed or oversized submissions are rejected.

Deployment records (108)

These retained records confirm completed deployments. Some do not have an exact match to the changes above; nearby dates alone do not establish what a deployment contained. Times are shown in Pacific time.

  1. de7ef042

The talk input stops zooming the page on an iPhone (16px, not 14) and a refused improvisation now leaves a one-line receipt instead of vanishing with the typed words. Thirty-two more serial openings run to six chapters: 319 of the 488 complete.

  2. c780a2b7

Repaired the operator panel's served script the same hour it broke: the review panel had shipped inside a template literal whose evaluation ate every single backslash, and the page died at its first syntax error. The worker suite now gates on the string the template actually evaluates to.

  3. 856206ee

The operator panel gains a Creations section — every submitted script rendered in the reader's language with all branches visible, shape flags, and approve, reject and retire with a note — and a creation ships with a blurb drafted at submit and reviewed with the script, so a creator's landing page never opens thin. Search learns bylines for the day creators exist. Fifty-five more serial openings run to six chapters: 287 of the 488 complete.

  4. d5d08e68

Creations gain their full lifecycle: a published story can be retired (terminal, the takedown record), a creator can delete their own drafts, and a published creator sees device-based reads, completions and next-chapter asks on their story. The deploy pull compile-validates every approved script and fails closed naming the row. Thirty-two more serial openings run to six chapters.

  5. bc2ffd03

The Create page opens for a signed-in reader — a wrong field name had hidden the form from everyone — with draft reopening, a server-side handle requirement and a name box; the talk funnel gains its denominators and a body cap; creator stories stop claiming cover art they do not have; and the serial-completion committee's first waves land, forty one-chapter openings now running to six chapters.

  6. b86efa23

A follow-up deploy from the same morning that changed no page digests; IndexNow submitted nothing for it.

  7. 98c93bda

Turned talk on for every non-adult story readers reach, and opened the Create page: paste text, let the AI draft the branching script, edit it and send it for human review.

  8. 92e71c43

Added talk mode: at a choice in Carmilla and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, type your own reply — the story may answer in one line before returning to its written branches.

  9. 61d3c53d

An intermediate deploy between the Fir Tree catalogue records and the talk-mode release; the retained records do not tie specific changes to this version.

  10. c5af1c6f

Illustrated The Fir Tree and recorded it across the catalogue: its blurb, tags, maturity rating and genre entry.

  11. b70228a0

Added The Fir Tree — a winter tale, and the first story drafted with the AI tooling and finished by hand.

  12. 9882b28f

Rewrote the opening chapter of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: strange weather over the Kansas farm from the first lines, and Toto talks.

  13. e631a87a

Told the truth about how far a serial goes: chapter counts, search snippets and the One sitting tag describe a boundary instead of a finished length, and the bare story directory now redirects to the browse hub.

  14. 0883f470

Published the 2026.10.07.3 release notes page and its deployment ledger.

  15. e26189d8

  16. c40ed7ab

Publish the 2026.10.07.2 release notes and verified deployment record.

  17. 0715d053

Resume a saved playthrough above the featured story, find backup tools directly, and check file sizes before downloading. Consistent options and clearer copy make library controls easier to use.

  18. 1761d455

Choose whether a deleted persona keeps its identity in saved playthroughs, and submit scoped deletion requests from your account. Clearer credit and authorship disclosures explain what readers can see and what the source metadata establishes.

  19. 1fb114bc

Download your account library, recognize each saved playthrough, and see clearly whether you are using guest or account data. Credit-name wording and authorship labels make the product easier to understand.

  20. d038399b

Back up your guest library, choose exactly what to import into your account, and understand how personas and private notes work. Clearer starting points and persistent import reminders make your saved stories easier to find.

  21. e0e26f6b

My NetFable brings your reading, personas, settings, and account together. Each playthrough now keeps its own identity and choices, with optional private syncing across devices.

  22. c2d75f36

Create personas for stories where you play yourself, retain the authored roles in classics, and explore NetFable’s recorded history. Added the Feature requests page.

  23. 2972ad26

Mr. Isaacs now makes your role as Paul Griggs explicit and distinguishes his speech from Isaacs’s replies.

  24. e05c4322

Story choices now have a presentation suited to both actions and conversation.

  25. 8d5b7b97

A normal reload can now pick up the latest published story text instead of continuing to show an older saved copy.

  26. 490669ed

More one-chapter stories received the first-person wording update. A later release gave action choices their own presentation.
