About NetFable

NetFable is interactive fiction told through conversations and narrated scenes. Read a little at a time, then choose a response or an action. Your choice leads to the next part of the scene; different paths may rejoin the same story.

The catalogue spans supernatural, sci-fi, thriller, workplace drama and romance, and it keeps growing. Every story is rated, and the rating is on the story — not on the door.

Free, and staying that way

Every story is free. There are no unlocks, no coins, no waiting timers, and no account to create. Nothing is held back for payment.

How it works

Create personas with a name, avatar, description, and optional pronouns. Choose one for each story where you play yourself, or keep reading as “You.” Classics retain their original protagonists. Persona names and avatars personalize the reader; descriptions and pronouns are private role notes and do not rewrite the story.

Pick a story and read at your own pace.
Conversations unfold through spoken lines, letters, or messages.
Scenes combine dialogue with narration and actions.
Decisions appear in a choice panel. Your selection is marked as Your choice before the story continues, separate from the characters' spoken lines.
Your choices are yours — where enough readers have made the same one, you will see what share of them agreed with you, but only after you have chosen.
Each playthrough keeps its own role, choices, and progress. Guest saves stay in this browser; signed-in saves sync privately to your account.
My NetFable brings together saved readings, personas, reading settings, and sign-in. Reading needs no account.

The community

There is a Discord server, and it is where the parts of NetFable that cannot be written in advance happen: readers comparing which choices they made, arguing about endings, and saying which stories they want more of.

It is also the fastest way to reach us. Ratings that look wrong, a chapter that will not load, a story you want added — all of it gets seen there sooner than anywhere else.

Content and age policy

Every story carries a rating, shown on its cover and on its page:

Teen — no explicit content.
Mature — adult themes, no explicit content.
18 — explicit sexual content. These ask you to confirm your age before they open; the confirmation is kept on your device and nowhere else.

Browsing NetFable, and reading anything not rated 18, needs no confirmation at all. Ratings are a first pass by automated review and corrected by hand — if one looks wrong to you, tell us and we will fix it.

Most stories here are licensed or adapted from public-domain sources, and readers can now create their own: paste a text you have the right to use, let the AI draft it into a branching script, edit every line you want to, and send it for review. A person reads every creator story before it ships, and it carries your name when it does. If anything here looks like it should not be, tell us and we will look at it.
