You play Captain Edward Waverley, a young dragoon given a week's leave to deliver his uncle's letter to an old family friend in the Highlands. Tully-Veolan proves nearly deserted, but Rose Bradwardine welcomes you, and her father the Baron receives you as his kinsman despite the red coat you wear. Supper turns strange when a fellow guest raises an unnamed toast to "the rightful king," leaving your commission and your host's hospitality on opposite sides of the table.
