About this story
You play Demetrio Macias, waiting in the shadow by the hearth while your wife feeds them; when the captain turns toward her, you step into the light with a rifle. They go, taking two tortillas and leaving a promise to come back with the regiment. By sunrise your wife and child are on the path to her father's, and the thorn fence is full of men.
Who you’ll meet
Demetrio's wife, unnamed in the script and the person who held the room all night, in the doorway of the hut with her child on her back and the lamp still burning, watching the two federal soldiers go — the reader is her husband, off camera.
