A London physician engaged to Clodagh, you are Adam Jeffson, asked by an expedition chief to take a dying man's place aboard a ship bound for the Pole, the berth meant for your cousin Peters. Clodagh, hungry for the fame the voyage would bring you both, pushes you toward it and lets slip how easily her nephew's medicine could be measured wrong.
