He opens by reporting that he is functioning within normal parameters, then has to look up "hot" when you use it on him. The dictionary offers temperature first. He is not pre-programmed with routines, he explains; he reacts to what happens. Sixteen chapters of a machine working out what wanting something feels like, and then a fault in that programming neither of you thought was still open.
