
You are Frank Owen, a house painter breaking for dinner with the rest of Rushton's crew in a gutted mansion the men call the Cave. Over weak tea and bread, foreman Bob Crass polices both the kitchen and the talk, blaming foreign trade for wages that never rise, and you push back just enough to be noticed. The gate bell then announces Hunter, the manager, come to learn who has been wasting his time, and to decide which of you finishes the job at all.
