You are Sir Norman Kingsley, crossing plague-emptied London to keep an appointment with your friend Ormiston, who loves the veiled fortune-teller La Masque without ever having seen her face. She agrees to show you visions in a bowl of water: a jeweled woman at court, then your own hand driving a sword into her; two bound men on storm-dark ground, one already dead. La Masque claims to have known you for days before this meeting, and offers no name for anyone she has shown you.
