You are Ethel May, fifteen, shortsighted, and set on walking supplies to a quarry family at Cocksmoor over your governess's objections. Norman, Flora, and the recovering sailor Alan Ernescliffe come along, and the visit turns from charity into an ambition: a school for children too far from town to ever attend one.
