You are Ralph Rover, fifteen, sailing as a green hand when a storm wrecks the Arrow on a coral reef and leaves you, Jack Martin, and Peterkin Gay the only three ashore. Months of building a life on the island end when two war canoes land on the beach, one chased by the other, its people bound and one infant thrown into the shallows.
