You play young Nigel Loring, whose family's land is being consumed by a lawsuit from Waverley Abbey. When a huge horse seized for debt turns on a fallen servant, you drive it off with a whip, then talk the Abbey's men out of shooting the animal and ride it to exhaustion yourself. The Abbey has you arrested anyway, and only Samkin Aylward, a franklin's son, will fight for your freedom, until Sir John Chandos arrives with word that King Edward is riding to Tilford.
