This weather belongs to another country, but disbelief will not keep cattle alive through it. You step into this one-chapter preview with Mopo at the center, where choices turn on the people, promises, and pressure already in the room. Mother, infant, and boy crossed the darkening grass while Chaka's threat and Mopo's foretold answer travelled home beside them. The chapter closes on a continuation question rather than resolving the novel's larger arc.
