You are Mr Moon, a tenant at Beacon House, when a gale blows a laughing stranger over the garden wall with a red umbrella and no luggage. He gives his name as Innocent Smith, empties his pockets of chalk, string, a marriage license, and a revolver cartridge, and asks for the attic room nearest the roof. By dinner he has reorganized the table, robbed the garden of its flowers, and fired his revolver past the doctor's hat — and two constables arrive with a warrant naming him for burglary and bigamy.
