Bernard resents the favoritism as much as you do, and the two of you begin trading lessons through a loose board after hours, preparing for a public examination rigged to reward polish over merit. When a newspaperman starts taking notes on the unfairness, the chapter ends with a sealed scholarship offer addressed to you alone.
