How it opens
You had crossed the ocean on a wager, more or less, and Percy Beaumont had crossed it to see that you lost nothing.
A letter from a fellow traveler gave you the name of a lady at Newport who had been kind to him in London.
My sister will show you the whole of America in a fortnight. Do stop her whenever you are tired.
Choose
Attend entirely to Mrs. Westgate, who is the show.
Turn to the younger sister and ask what she would show a stranger.
Ask them both, at once, whether Americans really dance all night as reported.
